Bio

Not much can be said about Jeff Hewitt that hasn’t already been said about the songwriting giants he reveres—names like Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, and John Prine. Hewitt’s songwriting carries that same weight of lived-in truth, dusty poetics, and aching humor. A fixture of the DFW folk community, Jeff’s music feels both timeless and startlingly personal, grounded in Americana but open-hearted enough to wander.

What sets him apart, though, is the unexpected twist he brings to tradition. Alongside his own lyrical ballads and sharp storytelling, Hewitt’s live sets are known to veer—without warning or apology—into covers of LL Cool J’s Mama Said Knock You Out or Eazy-E’s Boyz-n-the-Hood, reimagined through a dusty twang and an acoustic guitar. It’s this playful reverence for music in all its forms that makes Jeff both a scholar of the craft and a wildcard in the best way.

Jeff has shared the stage with the acts such as Justin Pickard & the Thunderbird Winos and Doug Burr, and played venues like The Cavern, Deep Ellum Brewing Tap Room, The Truck Yard, Lee Harvey's, Six Springs Tavern, and headlined the 2014 Allen Folk Festival. Jeff continues to draw a loyal following across Dallas Fort Worth, whether performing solo with just a guitar, duo with Orion Pitts on violin, or a wry smile fronting a full band, he brings a kind of raw presence that reminds you why folk music was never meant to sit still.
